What did Norco Music mean to you?

NM gave me the knowledge and hands-on experience of working with other musicians and recording in a high-end studio.

Favorite memory from your time here?

There are so many! From getting to perform an original piece for the Winter Showcase to traveling around with choir.

What are you doing now?

I’m currently a father of three, husband, electrician, and playing in two hard rock/metal bands. One is a national touring act with a record deal and endorsements like Monster Energy and more. The other is up-and-coming with some radio success and is well received by music industry professionals.

Biggest challenge you’ve faced?

Balancing my music, my family, and work. Music in itself is like a full-time job and like being in a relationship with other people.

A moment you knew you were on the right path?

Truth is, you really never know. My journey has had many twists and turns, ups and downs, promises that were broken, so you never really can tell. I just learned to continue to play and give it my best simply because I love doing it and appreciate every accomplishment, big or small.

Project you’re most proud of?

The Mendenhall Experiment. Aside from the success it has seen, it’s the people and lives we’ve touched that truly made The Mendenhall Experiment special.

How do you stay inspired?

I stay inspired through the connections I make through my music. Also, having toured and played on some major festivals pushes me to want to keep going.

What advice would you give current Norco Music students?

Soak it all in. You will learn tons from your teachers and peers that you can use toward your musical journey. As for the journey itself, learn to have tough skin and take criticism. The music industry is ruthless and full of heartbreak, but no matter what, play music because it’s what we musicians do—we play music because it heals wounds, it talks for us when we can’t, and sometimes it reminds other people that they’re not alone in what they are feeling.
